Doctor Lawrence Banks (Italy) 06.11.2014

The City of Poznań and Adam Mickiewicz University invite you to an open lecture by Doctor Lawrence Banks - a distinguished scientist in the field of research on molecular biology and mechanisms of viral infections. The lecture entitled "Molecular Determinants of Human Papillomavirus Oncogenic potential: High and Low Risk Virus Definition" will be held on 6 November 2014 (Thursday) at 11:30 a.m., in Room A Collegium Biologicum, Morasko Campus, Umultowska 89, Poznań.

Doctor Lawrence Banks is a prominent specialist in the field of Human Papillomaviruses (HPV), which are one of the main factors responsible e.g. for the development of cervical cancer.

Doctor Banks graduated from Leeds University. After receiving the doctor's title he worked in the Institute for Cancer Research and Imperial Cancer Research Fund in London. Since 1990 he has been a leader of the research group established by him (Tumour Virology Laboratory) at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology - ICGEB in Trieste, Italy. Doctor Bank's group is in the worldwide lead in terms of research on molecular biology and mechanisms of Papillomavirus infections. Major research topics of the group include the analysis of viral proteins with oncogenic features and explanation why infections with certain HPV types lead to the development of a cancer. The group is also interested in mechanisms of HPV viruses transport within a cell. Doctor Lawrence Banks has published until now around 200 scientific articles in internationally renowned magazines.
