Faculty of Political Sciences and Journalism of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and the City of Poznań invite to an open lecture by prof. Jan Zielonka, entitled "The European Union and the new political geography". Jan Zielonka, Professor of European Policy at the University of Oxford and Venice. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Wrocław and defended his doctoral thesis in the field of political thoughts at the University of Warsaw. A lecturer at the University of Warsaw, the European University in Florence and at the Dutch University of Leiden.
An author of many books and articles in English in the fields of international relations, political science and European studies. His last book, Counter-revolution. Liberal Europe in Retreat (Oxford University Press 2018) received the award of the International Association for European Studies (UACES) and has been translated into many languages, including Polish, by the Polish Scientific Publishers [PWN]. Two of his earlier books were published by the Polish Institute of International Affairs in the English translation: Europe as an Empire (2007) and The end of the European Union? (2015).
Prof. Zielonka writes regular columns for Rzeczpospolita, Die Zeit, NewStatesman, l'Espresso, Il Fatto Quotiduano, NRC Handelsblad and Diário de Notícias. His scientific articles were published in such renowned quarterlies as Foreign Affairs, International Affairs, Journal of Democracy or Journal of Common Market Studies. His works were translated into Italian, Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Estonian and Korean.
For the interests and studies of Prof. Zielonka include the problems of the integration and disintegration and the evolution of Europe's political geography. Currently, he is working on a book on the politics of space and time. He is a member of several scientific advisory boards, including the Community of Democracies, the International Forum for Democratic Studies, and the Sydney Democracy Network.
