Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and the City of Poznań invite to open lecture: Sealed with an X which will be given by Prof. Vona Groarke. The lecture will take place on 17 May 2016 at 11:30 AM in room 601a in Collegium Novum at Aleja Niepodległości Street 4.

Vona Groarke is a professor of the University of Manchester who has been teaching Irish literature since 2002. She is also one of the most recognized contemporary poets in Ireland. She obtained her humanistic education at the Trinity College in Dublin and at the University of Cork. Since 2014 she has been the chief editor of Poetry Ireland Review, a scientific journal. The poet is a member of Aosdána, Irish association of acclaimed artists. In 2010, she was a member the jury of Manchester Cathedral International Poetry Prize poetry contest.

Prof. Vona Groarke received many prizes and scholarships, including by Brendan Behan Memorial Prize for Shale (1994), her first collection of poems and Michael Hartnett Award for Flight (2002) included in the final list of works nominated for Forward Prize for the best collection of poems.

Prior to beginning work at the University of Manchester, in 2004 she worked at the Villanova University in the United States, where she was employed as a manager of Irish Studies (Heimbold Chair). In the period 2004-2007 she worked at the Wake Forest University in the United States, employed on the position of writer-in-residence. Since 2014 she has been the chief editor of Poetry Ireland Review, a scientific journal. The poet is a member of Aosdána, Irish association of acclaimed artists. In 2010 she was a member of jury of Manchester Cathedral International Poetry Prize poetry contest.

The poet is also the author of Irish-English translation of 18th century poem: Lament of Art. O'Leary (by Eibhlín Dubh Ní Chonaill). Poems of Vona Groarke have been translated to several languages, including French, Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese and Japanese. "Flight" was translated into Czech and Romanian. Apart from poetry, Vona Groarke writes articles for many newspapers and scientific journals. Recently issued essays were published in Antioch Review, Arete, The Irish Times, P.N Review, Poetry Review, The Guardian, Times Literary Supplement and Yale Review. Poetry of Prof. Groarke was published in anthologies: An Anthology of Modern Irish Poetry (2010) as well as Identity Parade (2010).

Vona Groarke has recently been guest of Boston University, Irish Arts Centre in Manhattan, Montclair State University in New Jersey and in Irish Cultural Centre in Paris. One of the issues of Irish University Review, scientific journal, was dedicated to the poet (Vol. 42, N.2, 2013).
