The City of Poznań and Adam Mickiewicz University invite you to an open lecture by Prof. John T. Wasson of University of California (UCLA). The lecture entitled: 'Chondritic meteorites, the building blocks of the planets: Isotopic differences and the episodic accretion of the solar nebula' will be held on 19th September 2014 at 6 p.m. in the Lubrański Lecture Hall of Collegium Minus UAM, in Wieniawskiego 1 street.
John T. Wasson, Professor at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry in Chemistry and Biochemistry Department of University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) and Faculty Distinguished Professor at the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics (UCLA). A member of three commissions in the International Astronomical Union (Division F Planetary Systems and Bioastronomy, Division F Commission 15 Physical Study of Comets & Minor Planets, Division F Commission 16 Physical Study of Planets & Satellites). A scholar of the following programmes: John Simon Guggenheim, National Institute of Health and U.S. National Science Foundation.
Professor Wasson deals with broadly understood cosmochemistry, in particular with evolution of protoplanetary disk, formation of cosmic dusk, iron and stone meteorites and origin of tektites. Moreover, the sphere of his interests includes also neutron activation and issues related to noble metals (Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, Re, Os, Ir, Pt, Au, Hg) as the proofs of impacts of huge meteorites on surface of the Earth.
Professor is the author and co-author of over 400 scientific publications which gained him outstanding recognition and which have been cited 4462 times.
The invited guest is a huge authority in the area of iron meteorites. To his honour, in 1983, one of planetoids was named: 4783 Wasson, whereas in 2011 a new mineral: Wassonite (TiS) found in meteorite Yamato 691, that originated from Antarctica, was also named after him.
