The Adam Mickiewicz University and the City of Poznań invite for an open lecture, which will be delivered by Prof. Michael Jonatan Davies, entitled "Oxidation of proteins - mechanisms and relevance in human disease". The lecture will be held on 6 May 2019 at 12:00 in hall D111 on the I floor of the Centre for Advanced Technologies UAM, ul. Umultowska 89c.
Prof. dr Michael J. Davies (born 8 July 1960) is the pioneer of research on the formation of free radicals and oxidants and their reactivity with proteins, DNA and carbohydrates, as well as their role in occurrence of health conditions. In 1987 he earned the title of doctor at the York University, Great Britain. He worked in several scientific centres, such as Brunel University (Great Britain), York University or the Heart Research Institute in Sydney, Australia. During the stay in Sydney he was the triple winner of prestigious scholarships of Australian Research Council. In the period of 2001-2014 he served as the deputy director and the director of the Heart Research Institute. In 2014 he won the prize of the Novo Nordisk foundation and started research works at the Biomedical Faculty of the Copenhagen University. His research group has contributed a significant input in the field of oxidative stress in biological systems. Prof. Davies works concerning detection of specific markers of radical and oxidative reactions in proteins provided the baseline for many awards. Professor Davies is the author of more than 330 articles, 8 published volumes, 26 chapters in books and 8 patents. Currently he serves as the President of the Society of Free Radical Research Europe.
