Prof. Mietek Jaroniec (USA) 05.06.2014

The University of Adam Mickiewicz and the City of Poznań kindly invite you to an open lecture "Progress in the synthesis and applications of nanomaterials in relation to energy and environmental science", to be given by Professor Mietek Jaroniec of Kent State University, Ohio, USA. The lecture will be held on 5th June 2014, from 9.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m., in the Hall of the Chemistry Faculty Council of the University of Adam Mickiewicz, room 2.57, at 89b Umultowska Street.

Professor Mieczysław Jaroniec (Mietek Jaroniec) currently works at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the Kent State University, Ohio, USA. His main fields of interest include the chemistry of surface phenomena, in particular the adsorption processes at the gas/solid and liquid/solid interfaces and the chemistry of nanoporous materials, particularly of ordered and hierarchical structures, for the use of environmental protection (e.g. removal of heavy metal ions, photocatalytic degradation of toxic organic compounds, adsorption of carbon dioxide) and for storage/generation of energy (capacitors, batteries). The current focus of Professor Jaroniec's group is on the synthesis, modification and characteristics of various materials with ordered nanoporous structures, in particular silica, silica with organic groups, metal oxides (e.g. of aluminium, titanium), phenolic resins, carbons and composite materials.

Professor Jaroniec is an author and co-author of over 1000 academic papers, a co-author of a monograph on physical adsorption on heterogeneous surfaces and of many vast monograph papers. He is one of the most often quoted chemists in the field of the chemistry of nanomaterials. He also is or was a member of editorial boards of many journals, among others: Adsorption, Advanced Porous Materials, Journal of Porous Materials, Chemistry Materials, Journal of Liquid Chromatography, Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, Thin Solid Films. He was granted numerous awards and distinctions, among others the title of an Honorary Professor of the Maria Curie Skłodowska University in Lublin as well as the Ph. D. honoris causa title of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and of the Military Technical Academy in Warsaw.
